The project

For Fischer, I designed two bespoke artworks for the personal skis of the brand’s Quebec marketing representative and his friend, ahead of a trip to Japan.

I was already customising objects for Fischer on a regular basis. He asked me to create two fully bespoke designs for their own skis: one-off pieces, true to them and made for that trip.

Two distinct graphic worlds

I worked on two separate worlds, playing with motifs, colours and details to turn the skis into graphic objects in their own right.

The first calls on the samurai, the rising sun and snowy ridgelines; the second on the koi carp and blossoming branches. Two hand-drawn Japanese stories in black, white and red, that read as well standing still as in motion.

The outcome: a collection in Japan

Once in Japan, the skis caught the eye of a local shop, which asked to keep them for its collection.

A customisation imagined to accompany a trip, which ended up finding its place in a Japanese collection.
